Founded in 1925, the Woodcraft Folk is a voluntary organisation working with children and young people, aiming to help develop their self-confidence and ability to act in society. There are about 500 groups in Britain, including 16 in Surrey, led by adult volunteers, often parents. There are four age groups: 6 – 9 years; 10 – 12; 13 – 15, and 16 – 20. The varied programme includes games, drama, craftwork and music, and is based on principles of co-operation, peace, understanding and international friendship. Groups have regular outdoor activities, particularly camping, hiking and hostelling, and members are encouraged to take part in community events and overseas exchanges.
