    Surrey Young Carers

AIMS

To be an organisation that works with and for Young Carers to enable them to achieve their full potential as young people. We aim to promote the needs of Young Carers in all Adult and Child Care settings

Who do Surrey Young Carers Work with?

Definition:

"A young carer is a person (up to the age of 18 years) whose life is affected by caring, where the person cared for has a disability, long-term illness, is frail or is affected by substance misuse.

The person being cared for may be a parent, sibling, other family member or friend and not necessarily living in the same house as the young carer."

    (Surrey Children’s Service Definition)

Surrey Young Carers do not provide a service in the borough of Epsom and Ewell as they have their own Young Carers project run by Carol Church: Tel: 01372 363618

Making a Referral:

Surrey Young Carers receive referrals from both professional agencies and on a self referral basis. Once the referral is allocated to the Support Worker of the area at the monthly Co Worker Meetings they will then arrange an initial visit with the adult family member, returning at another time to visit the young person in an appropriate environment. When returning the case at the Co Worker Meetings the outcomes are discussed and the services that Surrey Young Carers and other agencies could offer are decided and both the referrer and family are informed.
