Sea Rangers Association

Woking Sea Rangers SRS Wakeful

Aims

We are a uniformed voluntary organisation which is self supporting and instructs girls and young women in all matters nautical.  Though our self discipline and training we encourage them to develop into responsible citizens, giving service to the community through their work, their home and their leisure.  We offer recreation and training in all forms of boating and outdoor activities.

Woking Sea Rangers, SRS Wakeful, was formed in 1943 and is named after HMS Wakeful which was sunk at Dunkirk during WWII.  We offer a nautical based programme, showing traditional skills and up to date activities.

We have a large fleet of boats and are able to offer, rowing, sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, outboard handling and Narrowboat handling.  We have opportunities for offshore sailing, water-skiing, camping and many residentials involving boating and joining in with other groups.  We encourage our young people to gain BCU or RYA national qualifications, and we operate the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, and specialise in rowing and canoeing expeditions.  Most of all we always have fun and there is usually a wet session most weeks down the river!

We have two age groups:

bullet

Cadet Sea Rangers:         9.5 years. – 12.5 years.

bullet

Sea Rangers:                   12 years. – 21 years.
