Sayers Croft Trust
Enjoy, appreciate, understand, care
Aims
The Trust seeks to
encourage understanding, appreciation, enjoyment and care of the natural
environment, especially amongst children and young people and those who are
disadvantaged. We aim to develop a generation of advocates for the
environment and to improve young people's social skills and sense of
personal worth and confidence.
Services offered to Young People
The Sayers Croft Trust operates
from Sayers Croft Residential Centre and Local Nature Reserve. The Centre offers
residential courses in accommodation for up to 200 people in 6 separate
self-contained chalets. The Trust can offer non-residential courses in
environmental and outdoor education tailored to the groups needs. Facilities on
site include climbing wall, high and low ropes adventure courses, outdoor
swimming pool, archery, orienteering courses and a 27 acre nature reserve.
Profile of users
The residential centre caters for
school groups ranging from Year 2 to ‘A’ level. During holidays and weekends
many different youth and community groups use the facilities. The Trust
organises a variety of activities for the local community. These include holiday
activity programmes, school day visits, environmental based clubs for all ages
and birthday parties. We are especially keen to work with young people who may
be disadvantaged through disability or social circumstance and provide them with
opportunities to challenge themselves and explore the outdoor environment.
Services available to other organisations
The Community Education officer is
keen to forge links with other organisations and is willing to discuss how we
might run events/courses to suit groups specific needs. Our accommodation can be
used for conferences of young people e.g. youth orchestras. Halls and meeting
rooms may be hired.
