Horsley Youth Club

General information

Horsley Youth Club is now in its sixth year of operation and has been a very notable success due to both its facilities and the way it operates.

It has a purpose-built club room for its exclusive use as well as the use on club nights of a larger adjoining activity room which is part of the East Horsley Village Hall complex.  It has been thoughtfully resourced and equipped, has internet connection and a large variety of recreational and leisure activities are on offer.  As well as providing a social meeting place Art, music and dance projects are regular features. It also offers senior members the opportunity to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme which has been very popular as may be judged from the fact that 20 members have recently collected their Bronze Awards.  A further 6 have just commenced training for the Silver and Gold Awards.

The guiding principal of the club has been to provide a safe, comfortable, interesting meeting place for young people in Horsley offering a varied programme of activities covering a wide range of interests.  The success of that approach can be judged from the fact that it has some 180 members who regularly attend.

It is open on Tuesdays from 7.00pm~9.00pm for years 8 and 9 and on Thursdays from 7.30pm~9.30pm for year 10 upwards.  Attendance on both evenings is high; usually averaging around 40 members but that means the club relies very heavily on voluntary support to supplement the youth workers. There is also a monthly Youth Cafe, run in conjunction with the local police.
