| make a measurable difference to the lives of young people with whom the project has contact. | |
| be a positive influence and role model to every teenager we meet | |
| ‘stand with’ young people as they endure difficult and often tragic circumstances in their lives | |
| teach young people the skills they need to enable them to reach their full potential throughout life |
There are a number of main initiatives to the Eikon project, including:
| An Information and Advice Service – run in our local schools and the community. This is often the first place teenagers turn when faced with a concern. | |
| A Mentoring Project – the word ‘mentoring’ comes from the Latin word for ‘endurance’. Eikon youth workers stand alongside young people enduring difficult or tragic circumstances in their lives. | |
| The Interactive Zone - An after school social and study support centre for young people. This provides a safe environment for young people to meet their friends and gives them access to ICT equipment and help with homework. | |
| Courses such as Anger Management, Building Self Esteem, Coping with Family Breakdown, Quit Smoking – these course are normally 8 weeks in duration and are held in local schools. | |
| A M.A.D. (Making A Difference) Trip to Kenya every year – takes place in October each year. It is run for two main reasons. Firstly, to carry out practical work and fundraising activities in order to make a difference to people less fortunate than many of us living in Surrey. Secondly to expose affluent teenagers to the harsh reality of other people’s lives and to think through our responsibilities to it. | |
| A Football Team – enables young men to play the game they love, excel at a sport, control anger and develop social skills by being part of a supportive team environment. | |
| Personal Development Residentials - gives the opportunity for young people struggling in an academic context like school, to excel in a different arena. These residentials are designed to boost the self-esteem of individuals and raise their expectations of what they can achieve in the future. | |
| A Parenting Course – with families under intense pressures, this course aims to support parents in their vital role and encourages them to learn a few extra skills or techniques in parenting. |
